About the job
Greenpeace Greece is looking for a Climate and Energy Campaigner (C&E) to lead and implement impactful campaigns focused on combating climate change and promoting just sustainable energy solutions. The C&E will work to achieve national impacts that, in turn, support the global campaign goals with a strong focus on fossil fuel phase out. This position is about raising public awareness, engaging communities and ultimately influencing policy makers to support a just transition to renewable energy. The campaigner will be expected to analyse the current climate and energy reality and develop concrete projects in collaboration with relevant stakeholders in order to achieve change. The objective is to demonstrate that hope is not only possible, but it is a game changer.
Key duties & responsibilities (The Role) - subject but not limited to:
Conceptual tasks, Strategy and Project Development
- Maintain solid understanding of climate and energy related issues globally, regionally and locally.
- Maintain solid understanding of the social and justice issues related to climate change and energy democracy.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge on campaign issues and be able to analyse new developments in support of the campaign's vision, goals and objectives, in ways that are both understandable to non-experts and engaging.
- Demonstrate the ability to translate the complexities of climate change and energy issues into easily understandable and engaging terms. The job starts internally as it is not possible to persuade and engage the external public if one is unable to do so with one's colleagues. The role subsequently extends to external audiences.
- Collaborate with all colleagues involved in cross-functional project teams to shape projects related to climate and energy. This process requires effective teamwork, respect for differing opinions, persuasive communication and active listening.
- Be an idea generator, then select and develop those ideas into concrete projects. This is an example of both conceptual and hands-on skills.
- Monitor external social, economic and political events in order to guide development and agile adjustment of campaign strategic plans
- Ensure project objectives remain relevant to the society and engaging audiences
Implementation
- Lead and manage inspiring campaign projects, budgets, and timelines
- Represent the organization to government, business, media, academic and NGO sectors
- Execute proactive media outreach and reactive communications
- Participate in campaign activities , demonstrations and non-violent direct actions
- Create reports, briefs, and press releases for public engagement.
- Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders and influencers.
- Coordinate with international teams on global campaign projects.
Support / Coaching / Leadership
- Inspire and motivate colleagues, activists, and the general public on the assigned campaign issues
- Being propositional, decisive, strategically directed, agile, responsive, able to meet strict deadlines and professional in all aspects of his/her work
- Works actively and cooperatively with staff in other departments toward achieving the organization’s goals in an integrated manner
- Delegates tasks and responsibilities where appropriate and provide direction and support
Technical competences
- Fluency in written and spoken Greek
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Strong computer literacy
- Knowledge and experience in digital campaigning
- Ability to assess risks, including legal, reputational, and communication impacts
- Awareness and knowledge of ecological, socio-economic and political environment (global and regional/national)
- Knowledge of EU (or other supranational) Institutions, (inter)national politics and laws
- Understanding of research & investigation, campaigning, activism, advocacy, lobbying, NVDA, public engagement
- Proofreading skills
- Presentation, reporting skills & public speaking, analytical skills, attention to details
Method related competences
- Negotiation skills
- Planning & Organizing, ability to evaluate and assess, time management
- Project management (traditional and/or agile)
- Experience in international cooperation

Work environment
- Based in the Athens office, with the ability to work in a hybrid model
- Occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work may be necessary depending on campaign activities
- Ability to travel domestically and abroad approximately 10% of the time
- Driving license very much appreciated
Requirements
Qualifications and experience:
- At least 2 years previous working experience in advocacy campaigns preferably in the Climate and Energy sector.
- Have a good understanding of the NGO sector. Similar experience in an NGO will be highly appreciated.
- You are used to change and able to navigate a complex ever evolving environment well.
