Join us as our Senior Backend Engineer (Core Platform) and own the architecture, performance, and direction of the platform thousands of people rely on. This is a full-time, remote-first role.

🧠 Your playground: the core platform at scale

You'll work on the engine room of Sloneek — the modules every customer touches every day. Right now we're scaling core modules, tuning API performance, and building out a robust async architecture. That's exactly where we need you.

• Backend: PHP 🐘 & Laravel — mature, well-structured, and built to last.
• Data: PostgreSQL & Doctrine, with Redis for caching and queues.
• Architecture: REST APIs and an async worker architecture that has to stay fast under real load.
• Realtime: Firebase & Ably keep the product live and responsive.
• Infrastructure: AWS (S3, SES, SNS, SQS) and Kubernetes support reliable delivery and scale.
• Quality: Unit and integration testing, code reviews, and security practices we actually follow.

💪 What you'll actually be doing

• Build the product: Design, implement, and maintain new features and functionality across our core modules
• Make it fast: Optimize request loading times and overall application performance — with numbers to show for it
• Own the architecture: Lead technical design decisions for the backend, from data models to async workflows
• Ship with context: Work in a cross-functional team to understand what users actually need and translate it into scalable, efficient solutions
• Set the bar: Run code reviews, uphold coding best practices, and keep quality high as the codebase and team grow

✅ You might be a fit if you…

• Have 5+ years in backend engineering: A strong technical foundation and a good instinct for what is and isn't feasible.
• Know PostgreSQL and REST APIs deeply: Not toy projects — data models and APIs that power products people genuinely use.
• Can lead technical design: You've owned backend architecture decisions and lived with the consequences.
• Test what you build: Unit and integration testing are part of how you work, not an afterthought.
• Take security seriously: You know web and API security best practices and the regulatory landscape our industry sits in.
• Communicate exceptionally well: With technical and non-technical people alike, across very different backgrounds.
• Stay curious: You keep up with new technologies, frameworks, and better ways of building software.
• Bonus points: Data pipeline architecture and Python are a big plus — our AI layer isn't far away.
• Have a startup mindset: We act, test, iterate, and move forward as fast as we reasonably can.
